I learnt my craft in the darkrooms of Westminster College many moons ago when you had to stand in a tiny black cupboard to develop a roll of negatives and put each frame through development in the dark rooms. I still remember my first portrait revealing itself as I swooshed the developer around in the tray.
I was so captivated by the art that I turned my bedroom, in my tiny Brixton flat, into a dark room and when the prints were done I used to hang them out to dry on a washing line in my lounge and go to sleep high on the fumes.
My kit is fully digital now and I pass every image through Lightroom - it's not as messy but just as much fun.
I am equally happy on location or in my Hove Studio and if you have a story to tell I can help you to tell it. I work quietly and unobtrusively if the situation demands but I am also happy to give full direction.
Pretty much everyone I work with starts our session by explaining how much they hate having their picture taken and with this in mind I will do my very best to change your postition.
Our work will be a collaboration, I promise to listen very carefully to understand your brief and capture everything you need.
I have many wonderful clients, some of whom have been with me for a very long time, I've climbed to the top of the British Telecom, travelled deep inside the Mersey tunnels and everything in between, there is not much that I won't do for them.
Clients include; National Audit Office, Royal College of Nursing, AbbVie, Decideum, Beaumont Summer Camps, Avantis Wealth and various NHS Trusts. I also really enjoy working with local entreprenuers, makers, start-ups and small businesses.
This is what they say...
"I recently worked with Justine at a major launch event. Not only is Justine a pleasure to work with but her work is excellent. She understands the needs of the healthcare sector and really delivered beyond expectations." Alex Ledger, Deputy Managing Director at Decideum.
"Justine has a great eye for capturing unposed moments that tell the story. She is good at putting people at ease and experienced." Matt Worrall, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications AbbVie.
"Justine has a particular talent for the special high profile jobs that Comms people need to employ a safe pair of hands for." Carl Rees, Stakeholder Engagement Entrepreneur, Managing Director at Kognitive Ltd.
"We've used Justine's services for over a decade and have complete faith in her abilities to capture exactly the type of shots we need. We are often shooting in busy, sometimes stressful hospital wards and Justine will always deal with staff and patients and families in a professional, friendly and sensitive way. The images are always delivered to deadline and are widely used on our materials and website." Emma Jones, Communications Officer, Royal College of Nursing.
"Justine brilliantly captured the drama in the assignments she was tasked with. Working inside difficult locations such as hospitals or Job Centres is no easy task. Even very dry subjects such as someone filling in a form were better than I expected. A talented and very capable photographer who won’t disappoint you." Rob Holmes, Graphic Designer, National Audit Office.
